Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Red Rocks Amphitheatre has been on our music venue bucket list since I can remember. When Stacy’s favorite band Old Dominion announced they were adding a show there we jumped on the opportunity to check it off our list.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre has hosted thousands of concerts and music royalty since it opened in the early 1900s. Located in the hills of Denver suburb, Morrison, CO, Red Rocks Amphitheatre’s natural red rock landscape provides near perfect acoustics and a truly unforgettable concert setting.
Attending a concert at Red Rocks is the ultimate experience for any concert junkie or music fan. The photos you see of this magical place simply don’t scratch the surface on the feeling you get when you are standing in it...the nostalgia and enormity of it all. So incredibly beautiful that it almost looks fake…like a green screen behind you.
Oh, and Old Dominion? Yeah, they totally crushed it. We loved hearing all of their brand new hits, and we 100% sang and danced our booties off. It was definitely a top 5 all-time favorite experience for us.
best life—Venue Tips
Here’s what we learned:
The altitude is no joke if you’re traveling from a different climate. The thin air can cause you to lose your breath faster than normal if you’re not acclimated. Red Rocks Amphitheatre has hundreds of steps you will need to climb to get to your seat and back to the parking lot.
Drink plenty of water leading up to your trip to Colorado, and definitely throughout the day when you’re there to prevent dehydration.
Get there early and give yourself time to explore the venue and take photos. The park does open early in the morning if you want to catch the sunrise, workout, or take an amazing yoga class “on the rocks” before you get concert ready. Check the official site for park hours and classes as they vary.
Tailgating before the concert was a blast! Effective 1/1/2019, alcoholic beverages are allowed in the parking lots. Be sure to check their website for all restrictions (hard liquor and glass are not allowed).
Because Red Rocks is located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, it can get chilly even in the middle of summer. Be sure to check the weather. On the day of the concert we experienced blazing heat, on & off ginormous raindrops, wind, cold, and somehow I got sunburnt. Plan for it all & wear comfortable shoes.
The seats at the venue are long, very wide benches and there is no pit at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. We appreciated the extra space on the benches and the wide walkways because it made it really nice when people walked by to get to their seats.
The venue has both general admission tickets as well as ticketed seating. We noticed that it can vary by artist.
Getting out of the venue is quite the adventure. Traffic moves slow and the road is narrow, plan on taking your time (pack snacks!).
What an overwhelmingly amazing day we will never forget.
